SPA SERVICES
I hear about your blog from a client... I have been in Decatur for amost 4 years and I still feel like a little lost sometimes... with all this useful information your blog is awsome.
I am a former esthetitian of Natural Body spa where I worked for long time. I am having really hard time going back to work because I dont want to leave my 2 years old. So I decided to set up an spa room at home and I have been doing aesthetics, mostly waxing for now. I am exclusively oriented to serve "Moms".
In regular spa settings, moms are not allowed to bring their children so as a result, mom never gets her services done. I set up an space at home where two rooms are connected. In one I perform my spa service, while mom can watch her little one in the other room playing. The playroom is set up to be childproof. It has a lot of toys and also a resting area where kids can take nap if they need.
I am a mom too, so my hours are flexible and I work better with apointments made in the moment rather than with days in advance. If any mom needs a spa service, she can contact me at paola_covarrubias@yahoo.com or call me at 678 8876047. For eyebrows, leg waxing, lash or brow tinting, or to get that bikini ready for the beach! (I do brazilians too). Thank you for sharing this information!

For the month of May, Lucas Brotherton, a Winnona Park second grader has set a goal for himself to raise $500 which he will donate to PKU research. One way he will be raising
money is by hosting a lemonade stand which will be located on the corner of South McDonough and Oakview Road on Saturday, May
7th. He will be selling lemonade, fresh baked cookies and other treats. Please stop by and show your support.

Lucas’ Lemonade Stand
Date: Saturday, May 7th
Located: On the corner of South McDonough and Oakview Road (just across from Oakhurst community garden)
“Shop” Hours: 11:30pm -3:30pm

May is PKU awareness month. Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a metabolic disorder. Individuals with PKU cannot
process an amino acid called phenylalanine which is present in most foods. Without treatment, phenylalanine
builds up in the bloodstream and causes severe neurological complications. Standard treatment consists of a
strict low-protein diet and daily consumption of a special formula containing life-sustaining nutrition. Continued
research is needed to ease the difficulty of the diet and to help improve the quantity of life for all individuals living
with PKU.

All money that is collected will be donated to Georgia PKU Connect which is a 501c3 non-profit.

As a Decatur mom, I wanted to share a wonderful summer camp available for preschoolers located just down the road, Inman Park Cooperative Preschool's Summer in the City. This will mark the third summer that I've sent my daughter here... and our experience was so positive that first year, we have been attending IPCP full-time. For those that find the curriculum appealing but are unsure of the co-op investment, this is a great way for you to test out the school without the usual co-op obligations.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Summer is on its way and Inman Park Cooperative Preschool (IPCP) is excited to offer Nature in the City Summer Camp 2011! Our beautiful campus includes a certified National Wildlife Federation Schoolyard Habitat with a smaller outdoor garden space for our younger campers (ages 1 and 2).
During our camp sessions (which start June 6 and run for two weeks, through July 29), children will engage in individual and group projects and experiences where they will see, hear, touch and even taste nuture, all while developing a lifelong love of the outdoors. Each week, a special guest will visit IPCP to enhance the session's theme.
IPCP's Nature in the City Summer Camp will bring your child a summer full of exploration, fun and friendship. Visit ipcp.org for more information. Many thanks.
Hi Tumara,
I am the founder of Walk For Lunch (http://www.WalkForLunch.com), a lunch hour walking program that includes healthy lunches and benefits local children. We have been invited to bring our walking program to Decatur for May 3 -26, (Tuesdays and Thursdays) by the City of Decatur. Our program will benefit the Decatur Education Foundation.
Our mission is to provide walkers with an out-of-the box incentive plan to walk every week by giving them a healthy lunch in a safe, fun, and exciting environment.
I would like to invite you and or your children out for our lunch hour walking program. You can walk on your own from your location or we will have a variety of 1 mile walking groups that will begin at noon at the Decatur Square. The Mayor of Decatur will be leading our first 1 mile walk on May 3rd and our “Stroller Walks” will be coordinated by Leah Barber (resident of Decatur) and Co-Founder of Singletracks.com.
If you would like to organize a neighborhood team, you may create a team name at http://www.WalkForLunch.com and compete for the Team Challenge Award.
I am also a mom and I know how we love a good deal, so I wanted to give the first 50 moms that email me a $5 discount on our walking program, so your cost will be $20 for the entire month. You can email me directly at info@walkforlunch.com to receive this deal, please make this your subject heading: $5 discount code for Walk For Lunch .
I am looking for a nanny/nanny share or a stay at home mommy (with young children that wants to make some extra money) 1 day a week from 7:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Pay is $15/hour. Tuesdays are ideal. Our house is located in East Lake. Although we don't feel comfortable with people driving our boys (3 years and 17 months)- our front yard is literally a park where neighborhood children play- so you won't get bored! If you have young children you are welcome to bring them. That's what our last nanny did (she was with us for over 3 years) and it was great! If interested contact us at jjdevineuga@aol.com or 770-547-1400.
Thanks,
Jenny
Would you be able to email me information about how to find the nanny shares? Thanks! Please send it to dulcinea7749 (at) aol (dot) com (just replace the (at) with @ and the (dot) with .)
Decatur parents would love to know about this...
Hi there,
I'm a parent of a wee student (Jack, 3) of the Oakhurst Cooperative Preschool.
I really *really* really think our school is something unusual and special. My very shy son even adores it there. The teachers are caring and smart and the location is quaint and looks like something straight out of Hansel and Gretel :)
So I'm hoping you can help me spread the word about our upcoming year. Back last year, I only heard about our school via word of mouth and basically - I wish someone in the media had talked about OCP back when I was looking for schools.
We have some fun information sessions coming up, where other parents can find out more about OCP. I love this blog and would be honored if you could help us get the word out.
Thanks and Happy New Year!!
Here's the press release about OCP:
***********
Come explore what Oakhurst Cooperative Preschool can offer your family!
Oakhurst Cooperative Preschool will be hosting enrollment information sessions for the 2011 - 2012 school year in January and February. Located at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany at the corner of Ponce de Leon Avenue and East Lake Drive, OCP provides a secular education to children in the Decatur and Atlanta areas. OCP uses a unique nature-based curriculum that has its roots in Waldorf and Reggio Emilia. Our curriculum embraces nature walks, simple all-natural toys when possible, and the celebration of the seasons. Children receive a hands-on environmental education every day.
OCP accepts children aged 2 - 4 years for morning classes grouped by age. Children must be 2 by September 1, 2011 to attend. Classes are taught by well-qualified teachers with expertise in early childhood education who are supervised by our experienced director. Parents serve as assistant teachers in the classroom on a rotating basis.
As a cooperative preschool, OCP is entirely parent-run. Parents make up the Board of Directors and serve on committees that operate the school. When a member family joins OCP, it becomes part of a community, not just part of a preschool.
OCP will be holding enrollment information sessions at the following times:
	•	Saturday, January 8 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
	•	Tuesday, January 25 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
	•	Saturday, February 5 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Attendance at one of the enrollment information sessions is a required component of the admissions process. For additional information, please visit www.oakhurstcoop.com or e-mail admissions@oakhurstcoop.com with any questions.
