Decorate Decatur 2009 Winners Announced

Cheryl at The Decatur Minute has posted the 2009 winners of the Decorate Decatur contest! According to the article, the winner of this year’s  “Commissioner’s Cup” is Nancy Wilkinson & Susan Phillips at 205 Adair Street…Congratulations! My family knows 205 Adair as the “flamingo house” for the plentiful plastic flamingos that decorate the yard in the summer and fall. My kids LOVE the Christmas decorations but are also eagerly awaiting the return of the flamingos :-)

The article goes on the announce the other winners which include homeowners, businesses and also a special mention to the City of Decatur for the beautiful street scape and lighted bandstand. View the article for the full list. And congratulations to all of the winners!

The Decorate Decatur contest has become a holiday tradition in my family. Every year on Christmas Eve my husband maps the ideal route to go and see every winning house. (This year I’ll try to post the map!) We get the kids in their PJs and take a late night drive to see the beautiful decorations. The plan is always to get the kids to fall asleep on the drive thereby making the Christmas Eve bedtime a lot easier.

So far, each year, I am the only person who falls asleep on our Decorate Decatur tour! I can honestly say that I’ve never been successful in seeing the whole tour. But this year, I’m more determined than ever to make it because the decorations are especially beautiful.

  1. Nancy Wilkinson says:

So glad you enjoyed the flamingos this year. They should return from their migration some time after the Cinco de Mayo decorations come down. Unless of course I find a new holiday to decorate for!
