Father’s Day is June 15th and last weekend I started researching things to do around town to create a special day for our Decatur Dad. The plan – be prepared well advanced this year. Have reservations or tickets or gifts or cards ready at least a week in advance. No sorting through the left over cards at CVS on Sunday morning or stringing together last-minute plans. Nope, our Decatur Dad deserves better.
However, after developing a pretty strong list of options and calling those establishments to find out if they had any special Father’s Day menus or events planned quite a few answered, “Hmmmmm….that’s a GREAT idea but we haven’t thought that far in advance.” Ha! And that’s what I love about Decatur. This town is just as laid back as I am.
Despite the minor setback, I pressed on with my Father’s Day preparedness plan and came up with a variety ideas. Perhaps one of these might work for the Decatur Dad in your life…
For the Decatur Dad needs who needs to unwind: Men’s Fitness Facial with massage, Fabu Face Spa, 335 W. Ponce de Leon Ave, Suite E, Decatur, GA
For the Decatur Dad who loves a good book: Story hour with Dad, 3:00 p.m. on June 15th, Little Shop of Stories, 133 East Court Square in Decatur, GA
For the Decatur Dad who appreciates the finer things in life: Tastings: A Wine Experience is taking orders for custom gift baskets; port and cigars or other items of your choosing. Call 404-373-3244. FYI – Tastings will be open if you decide to celebrate Father’s Day with a night out. It is located at 335 W. Ponce de Leon Ave. Check out decaturmetro’s write up about his night out at Tastings.
For the Decatur Dad who loves music and brunch: Sweet Melissa’s Sunday brunch with jazz, from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., 127 East Court Square, Decatur, GA. My kids go for the yogurt pancakes, my husband loves the omelets and I think that the shrimp & grits is some of the best in town, but the best part is that the music keeps the kids so entertained that we actually have time to relax and enjoy the experience.
For the Decatur Dad with casual style: Whit’s End men’s clothing has shirts, pants, shoes and watches on sale, 431 W. Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur, GA
For the Decatur Dad who loves to cook: Wordsmiths Books is hosting Richard Blais, author of Top Chef: The Cookbook and star of Top Chef on Bravo, June 15th at 2:00 p.m., 545 N. McDonough St, Decatur GA
I’d love to keep this list growing, so if you have some Father’s Day ideas that you would like to share please send them my way.
