Concerts On The Square in Decatur, GA

Spring is one of our favorite times of year in the City of Decatur. It’s the season for music, art and book festivals and great weather to enjoy all of the action. One of best springtime festivals in the City of Decatur is the Decatur Music festival. Every Saturday through the month of May, you can enjoy great music and fellowship with your neighbors from 7 – 9 pm at the bandstand behind the Decatur City Courthouse. Last night, we enjoyed the soulful music of Ralph Roddenber. On May 24th you can hear the music of Baatin & Top Secret. And the concert on May 31st features the Lindsay Rakers Band.

Dancing at the Decatur Square ConcertsAt the bandstand, you will find an eclectic scene of young children moving to music, rolling in the grass, or playing at the fountain mixed with couples having romantic picnics on blankets, and families with matching, portable lawn chairs. Because it’s late, the kids are especially giddy with the excitement of “being up.” Moms and dads actually look relaxed while listening to the music and enjoying a nice picnic dinner (usually with wine). To add even more spice to the night, sponsors Wachovia and Art Institute of Atlanta – Decatur raffle off great prizes such as gift certificates to local Decatur restaurants.

When the sun starts to set, the kids tire out and take comfort on their picnic blankets or in the arms of mom or dad swaying to the music. Our little ones usually fall asleep in the stroller on the walk home. Sometimes we bring them in their PJs to make the transition to bed a lot easier. Whether they fall asleep directly or need a little help, this a family-friendly event worth the late bedtime. I hope that you get a chance to come out and enjoy it.

Yours truly,

Tumara a.k.a. Decatur Mom
